The
Grosser Mythen is a sight for itself. The first time we noticed this mountain was during a snowshoeing trip in Hoch-Ybrig, just a valley over. From there, we saw the Mythen and were impressed by its shape and dominance. We told ourselves one day, we will climb up there :) A few moments later, we noticed a tiny hut on the top of the mountain and then a trail going up the mountain. We were surprised that there was a trail, because the mountain looked so step.
Once back home, we googled the mountain and found out that the trail is a T2, so well in our range, yeah! Since then we were so much looking forward to hike this mountain.
Elevation loss: 1'781m
On June 3rd 2018, we took the 6:20am Tram and were at Brunni Talstation at 7:57am. There were other people starting the same trail with us and there were even people already coming down from the mountain. They must’ve have been up there for sunrise.
The first part of the trail is the trail goes up through a little forest. It’s already fairly steep but not compared to the the rest of trail. Once you reach the top Brunni Station, the trail goes up very steep with many switchbacks. Although the trail is very steep, it’s fairly white for two people to pass and where necessary secured with chains on the side.
On top there is a little cute mountain restaurant at 1899m. There you can get drinks, snack and croissants for reasonable prices. From the top you have a 360degree view and we were able to see Mount Rigi (which we hiked four weeks ago), Mount Pilatus (hiked last week) and the Vierwaldstättersee.
