Mac Lehose Trail - Day 3 - Section 4/5

Distance: 23.6 km
Time: 8:46 hr
Elevation gain: 1'539 m
Elevation loss: 1'538 m

We were heading out of the still empty campsite at around 9am. The campsite had not access to water, but a porta pottie, that had a huuuuge spider inside in the morning, ugh. There was no rain and no sun today.

Section 4

Section 5

Section 4 went up and down frequently. What is kind of special about the MacLehode trail ist that there are a lot of stairs on the trail. Most of the up and down sections are covered in stairs. Today, there were a lot of trail runners around who trained for the Oxfam Trailwalker event, taking place in about 1 week. We just learned about the event on that day. It is organized every year and running groups are finishing all 100km of the MacLehode trail in one sitting. It took the fastest team 11:01hrs to finish the whole trail in 2016. That's incredible. During the end of section 4 there are great views over the city. This part is definitely the closest to the city.

After the more strenuous section 5, a very relaxing section 4 was ahead of us. It is also nicknamed 'memorial walk' as it goes past servers bunkers and relics from world war II. It was quite interesting to see these relics. At the end of this section, he had to descend one more mountain, Beacon Hill. This one was quite steep going down and our knees started to hurt. As there are no campsites at the end of section 5, we decided the night before to head back into the city to Mongkok to stay in a hotel for a night. After 9.5hrs of hiking we took the bus back to the city, it was a short 25min ride and spent the night in the cheapest room available.
